readme.txt for Flagman Newt v1.0 3/31/96 ==================================== Flagman Newt version 1.0 Copyright (c)1996, Namba One Systems by Kimiko & Tetuso Namba All rights reserved. ==================================== 1. Introduction This is a simple animation program for the Newton. All it does is semaphore flag signalling. You write your message down, and it signals it for you. Some people call it an educational program, and others call it useless. For those who wanted to learn how to do flag signalling (like myself), this program is for you. For an excellent introduction to flag signalling, visit Jim Croft's web page . If you like this program, please try our "Knight in Minefield", "Little Peking" and "RepTile". They are freeware games for the Newton. 2. Distribution of This Program This program is freeware. You are free to give it away to your friends and family members. Be sure to pass this readme file along with the program. If you upload this program to a BBS or FTP site, please notify us by sending email afterwards. Like Steve Holden of NewtNews says, "Don't sue us, we won't sue you."3. Requirements This program was tested on the MP-120 with Newton OS 1.3. It should work on other models with the same OS. It should work on the OS 2.0 as well, although we have not tested yet. The program takes up about 35KB of memory and consumes 1KB of heap.4. How to Use This Program A. Signal Your Messages Write your message on the input line located above the Flagman (the dummy). Characters you can use are alphabet and numerals only. Any- thing other than alphanumeric characters are ignored. Tap the [Do It] button, and the Flagman starts the action. You see a "subtile" below the Flagman as he spells each letter. B. Test Your Ability If you want to test your ablity to "read" flag signals, tap the [Quiz] button. The Flagman randomly picks a word and signals it. When you get more advanced, try the quizes without any help. Tap the [i] button, and select the entry "Quiz - no subtitle". C. Set Speed You can make the Flagman work faster. Tap the [i] button, and select the speed (slow, medium and fast). The default setting is "slow". 5. Please Donate Writing a program and maintaining it takes a lot of efforts. If you find this program interesting, please donate some money to us. Comments, bug reports and suggestions are welcome.
