With apologies to Bill, Andy and everyone else in Mountain View... Welcome to GM! >> IMPORTANT! IF YOU ARE USING GM v1.0 REMOVE IT BEFORE LOADING GM v1.5! >>THIS IS DONE THROUGH Extras->Prefs->Memory->Remove Software->GM:tOP or >> Extras->Card->Remove Software->GM:tOP. >>DO NOT REMOVE GM WHILE RUNNING GM! I CANNOT GUARANTEE THE SUCCESSFUL >> INSTALLATION OF GM 1.5 UNLESS YOUR EXISTING GM IS FIRST REMOVED! >>IT IS ALSO ADVISED T0 RESET YOUR NEWTON DEVICE AFTER REMOVING THE OLD GM >> AND BEFORE INSTALLING THE NEW GM. Changes since 1.0: 1. Thermostat in Desk scene displays battery, three types of memory, and temperature, and allows you to set the contrast and volume of your Newton. 2. Books on top of filing cabinet gives you a list of available Newton books. Tap on one to read it. 3. There is a stack of papers on the desk. Tapping this gives you quick access to 5 different searches. Write want you want to look for on one of the lines, and tap its ÒFindÓ button. These searches are persistent, that is GM will remember what to look for across restarts. 4. GMÕs floating icon is smaller now. No, I will not add it to the NotepadÕs status bar. 5. The floating icon will remember where you left it. 6. New icon (BFD). 7. Hallway has forwards and backwards arrows. 8. Directory in hall lists available packages. Tap on one to open it. 9. GM handles the Newton Book error in the hallway (not really well. It tells you to open a book from the desk. See note 2). 10. GM now makes an entry into your NewtonÕs System soup. Its tag is ÒGM:tOPÓ and can be removed by any thirdÐparty soup tool if you are no longer using GM. If you accidentally remove this entry, donÕt worry, GM will rebuild it the next time you open GM. 11. To get the mst out of GM, you should load it into Newton's internal memory, so it is available with all of your cards. Things like the file cabinet work differently with different types of cards, so check it out! End of Changes. For those of us who canÕt wait for MotorolaÕs Envoy and the rest of the PICÕs, here is a substitute. IÕm not documenting the functionality of this environment, but here are a couple of things to look for and try out. Everything in the ÒDeskÓ view does something. Tap everything you can think of. The Clock on the wall, the Inbox and the Outbox will update themselves every minute, or when you enter the room. Tapping the Notepad reveals the Notepad, along with a little floater. This floater can be dragged. Click on it to return to the desk. The pointing hands at the top of the screen will take you to hallway or from room to room, or back to the desk. To open a door, tap its icon/sign, not the door itself or the doorknob. You may have to adjust the contrast on your Newton to display GM correctly. This is a problem with bitmaps on LCD screens in general. Have Fun! P.S. Check out Chron, our automation utility for Newton! Get mail, send Mail, faxes and print jobs automatically! Also allows you to request an action or actions from the Assistant automatically! Cool, and cheap Ð only $19.95. Call, fax, eMail, or mail for details. Gregory N. Christie theObjectPartnership P.O.
